Pageant seeks red nose volunteers

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is searching for volunteers to help on pageant day, as it attempts to set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing red noses.

Event organisers hope to count more than 30,000 members of the pageant crowd wearing red noses on pageant morning, Saturday 12 November 2011.

About 30,000 red noses will be distributed on the day but pageant-goers are encouraged to bring their own to be a part of the fun.

Credit Union Christmas Pageant Event Director, Brian Gilbertson, is asking pageant crowds to arrive early and participate in the fun activity.

Mr Gilbertson said that more volunteers were needed to help with the Guinness World Record attempt on pageant morning.

“The theme of this year’s pageant is ‘celebrate the clown within’, so what better way to get into the spirit than to join together to set a world record,” he said.

The attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing red noses will take place at 9.10 am on Saturday 12 November from behind the pageant’s blue honour line. The Credit Union Christmas Pageant will begin at 9.30am.

“Our volunteers will be located along the pageant route, ready to give out noses and begin the count. They will also encourage the crowd to take photos of each other and post them on Facebook for fun,” said Brian Gilbertson.

Everyone will be required to wear their red nose for ten minutes to achieve the record and ‘red nose’ themed music will play to pass the time.

The current Guinness World Record was achieved in Portugal in 2010 with 15,956 participants. The Sydney Swans challenged the record this year but their attempt has not yet been approved.

“We are quietly confident that the wonderful South Australian community will come together to make our record bid a success,” said Brian Gilbertson.

Volunteers will be fully briefed at an information night on Monday, 7 November 2011 at the Adelaide Town Hall where they will be supplied with an information pack, t-shirt and cap.

More than 300,000 people are expected to line the pageant route as Father Christmas makes his way from South Terrace to the Magic Cave at David Jones.

In 2011 the pageant will be travelling a slightly different route along Flinders Street due to construction works along Grenfell Street. Event organisers encourage pageant-goers to study the route map carefully. View the new route map.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by four leading credit unions in South Australia – People’s Choice Credit Union, Community CPS Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
