Rise and Shine, it's Pageant Time
The wait for Father Christmas will finally be over for hundreds of thousands of South Australians, as he arrives today at the Credit Union Christmas Pageant enjoying the warmth of a South Australian summer far from the icy winds of the North Pole. More than 320,000 spectators are expected to line Adelaides streets to celebrate as the Pageant heralds the start to the Christmas season in South Australia. Brian Gilbertson, Creative Director and Event Manager of Credit Union Christmas Pageant, says that this years event is the biggest ever.
The 2009 Credit Union Christmas Pageant will be the biggest South Australians have ever seen. We have 63 floats and 15 bands plus nine walking sets, 10 dance groups, one DJ and three choirs, says Brian Gilbertson.
The 2009 event includes six brand new floats: Royal Family, Christmas in Toytown, Grandpas Christmas Workshop, Pandas, Christmas Stocking and the Robot Family. Rodney the Red Bi-Plane, the winning 2009 mini-float design by students from Owen Primary School, is expected to be a new family favourite.
Mr Peter Evers, Chair, Credit Union Pageant Company, says the theme for this years event Families Sharing Memories is ideal. Once again the credit unions are proud to bring the Pageant to the South Australian community and contribute to creating even more memories of this special day for old and new generations, says Peter Evers. Were particularly proud to evolve an old tradition of the Pageant Queen by introducing the first Pageant King and Princes. A second attempt to secure a Guinness World Record for the longest Mexican Wave will be part of the celebrations today.
An official from Guinness World Records, Chris Sheedy, will be in Adelaide today to oversee the wave and to verify whether a new world record has been set.
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by six leading credit unions in South Australia - Savings & Loans, Australian Central, Community CPS Australia, Police, Powerstate, and Satisfac.
