Owen Primary School Takes Pageant Honours
Owen Primary School has taken out honours in the 2009 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Mini-Float Competition beating 328 other designs from 24 schools around the State to claim first prize.
Mr Peter Evers, Chairman of the Credit Union Pageant Company, was very proud to see the record amount of entries for this years Mini-Float Competition. "The Credit Union Pageant Company commends all the schools that entered the competition. The calibre of the entries and effort put into the designs were exceptional," Mr Evers said.
"Owen Primary Schools outstanding design, Rodney the Red Biplane, sees them being awarded the privilege of having their design built to appear in this years Pageant, $500 for helping us to spread the Pageant magic and the spirit of Christmas and a visit to Stardust Castle to preview their mini-float."
There were some fantastic designs for the Mini-Float Competition in the form of drawings, models and paintings making the judges decision extremely tough. A mini-float is a small mobile set that is light enough to be pushed or pulled along the Pageant route.
"This years Pageant is all about families sharing memories and celebrating wisdom. Owen Primary Schools winning entry met the competition brief and was able to encapsulate some of these elements," said Brian Gilbertson, Pageant Director.
Owen Primary School chose their final design idea for Rodney the Red Biplane after learning about the history of the Credit Union Christmas Pageant and the important role the biplane has played in the event throughout history.
"Owen Primary celebrated 125 years in 2008 and with only 61 students created Rodney the Red Biplane, who is expected to become a new event favourite when he makes his Pageant debut on Saturday 14 November," said Brian Gilbertson.
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by six leading credit unions in South Australia - Savings & Loans, Australian Central, Community CPS Australia, Police, Powerstate, and Satisfac.
