Pageant Still a Record Breaker

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant was once again a great success and, despite the hot weather, 224,000 people took to the streets of Adelaide to celebrate the magic of Christmas.

For those at home, Channel 9 Adelaides live telecast of the pageant was the number one program on Saturday attracting a peak audience of 225,000 viewers; a record for the Pageant.

Credit Union Christmas Pageant Director Brian Gilbertson says the pageants theme, families sharing memories, was undeniably achieved.

Families of all ages lined the streets, celebrating the traditions of the pageant and enjoying the spirit of Christmas while spending time together, says Brian Gilbertson.

An attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest Mexican wave was made by the crowd on Pageant morning.

The wave travelled the whole 3.3km pageant route from South Terrace to North Terrace which was a huge achievement, but unfortunately the participant numbers fell just short of breaking the world record.

Australias representative from Guinness World Records, Chris Sheedy, was in Adelaide to watch the record attempt and said it was one of the biggest record attempts ever in Australia.

In ten years of working for Guinness World Records Ive seen some extremely impressive events around the world, but never have I seen thousands of people coming together for such a wonderful celebration of community of spirit, says Chris Sheedy.

The 2010 Credit Union Christmas pageant will be held in Adelaide on Saturday 13 November 2010.
