Hot Weather Advice: Credit Union Christmas Pageant

The Bureau for Meteorology has advised that the temperature during the Credit Union Christmas Pageant tomorrow (14 November) is expected to be 34 degrees at 9am, rising to 38 degrees at 11am.

Pageant organisers are reminding spectators to be sun smart and bring water and sunscreen with them.

Our message to everyone coming to the Credit Union Christmas Pageant is to bring lots of water and sunscreen with you, keep cool, be sun smart, and have lots of fun, says Credit Union Christmas Pageant Director, Brian Gilbertson.

Since 1933 the Credit Union Christmas Pageant has been held in all weather conditions, and each year families have come well prepared. We encourage people to do the same this year.

It is important that people bring plenty of water with them and remember to be sun smart by wearing light, loose clothing, a hat and sunscreen.

Although people should bring their own water with them, water will also be available at a number of locations along the route. The locations of these water sites are marked on the route map>

Modifications to the pageant have been made in response to the heatwave including changes to a number of floats and costumes, and additional water is being supplied on the floats for the pageant characters and in the streets for the pageant crowd.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant magic begins at 9.10am on Saturday with an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest Mexican wave. The parade begins at 9.30am on South Terrace, with Father Christmas reaching the landing stage in North Terrace at approximately 11.20am.

A pageant route map, which includes the location of the survival sites and water locations, is available. Click here to download a copy
