School students are invited to get creative and enter a competition to design a mini float that will feature in the 2015 Credit Union Christmas Pageant.

Education and Child Development Minister Susan Close said the Design a Mini Float Competition was an excellent way for schools and students to become involved in the Pageant.

Held every two years, the Design a Mini Float Competition is open to individual students or class entries.

A mini float is a small mobile set that is light enough to be pushed or pulled along the Pageant route.

“We were overwhelmed with 430 fabulous designs in 2013, and this year we are once again expecting a huge amount of interest.

“I can’t wait to see what the students create.

“The winning design will be built by the elves at Stardust Castle and will then be included in the parade.

“The student or students who create the winning design will be invited to Stardust Castle to watch the float-building process and have morning tea,” Ms Close said.

Peter Evers, Chair of the Credit Union Pageant Company, said the competition has continued to grow since it began in 2007.

“The credit unions are pleased to provide the prizes as an added incentive for entrants -- $500 for first place; $250 for second place and $100 for third place.

“Of course, the real prize is seeing your entry come to life in front of more than 300,000 spectators on the big day,” he said.

South Australia’s 83rd annual Credit Union Christmas Pageant will be held on Saturday, 14 November.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the State Government and is sponsored by People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
