The 2016 Credit Union Christmas Pageant Royal Family were presented at a red carpet crowning ceremony for family and friends at Stardust Castle yesterday. The five princesses and princes were selected from hundreds of public applicants and are now ready to shine and sparkle on Pageant Day.

Credit Union Christmas Pageant, Creative Director, Brian Gilbertson said opening applications for the Pageant Royal Family to the public for the first time has been exciting and humbling to be able to share this experience with all South Australians.

“For the first time in event history, yesterday at Stardust Castle we crowned the 2016 Queen and King at a small ceremony in front of their family and friends.”

“It was emotional with tears of joy being shed as King Ben and Queen Elyse accepted the honour, wearing their crowns with pride whilst walking the red carpet as trumpets played in the background,” said Brian Gilbertson.

Twenty-three year old Elyse Ramsay’s heart nearly burst when she heard that members of the public could apply to be part of the Royal Family for the first time in 2016.

“I’ve watched the Pageant every year as long as I can remember and as soon as I was old enough to speak I told mum I was going to work for a credit union just so I could be in it. As a little girl I dreamt of being on Nipper or Nimble (as every little South Aussie girl does),” said Queen Elyse.

“I’m 23 now but the little girl in me never stopped dreaming, even if everyone who knows me insists I’m much too old to get so excited about the Pageant. The Pageant has a certain magic about it that no other day has.”

“The Pageant has the ability to stir up feelings and memories I felt when I was little, memories I will carry with me for a lifetime,” said Queen Elyse.

Ben Young, age 28, applied to be Pageant King this year to be a part of the magic he enjoyed so much growing up.

“It is an honour and privilege to be crowned King,” said King Ben.

“Growing up as a young boy in country SA, for one Saturday morning of the year, the TV was commandeered by the kids. The five of us would jostle our bean bags for prime real estate in front of the old 18” ‘National’ Screen to get the best view of our favourite floats.”

“Watching the Pageant as a kid, it always seemed like a magical eternity until the main attraction in Father Christmas arrived, I cannot wait to be a part of it all,” said King Ben.

Queen Elyse and King Ben will be joined by Royal Family members Prince Rohan McQueen, Princess Melissa Smith, Princess Jaclyn Heinrich, Prince Kaine Dodds, Princess Alex Golding and Princess Sarah Kostiw.
