Three magical new floats have been unveiled today as the countdown begins to the 79th Credit Union Christmas Pageant on 12 November 2011.
Brian Gilbertson, Event Manager and Creative Director officially announced the theme for this year’s event 'Celebrate The Clown Within' at today’s launch at Stardust Castle, Woodville.
“With more than 250 clowns taking part in the parade this year, I am sure we will all embrace the new theme, as there is a little clown in all of us,” Mr Gilbertson said.
The three new floats revealed to a crowd of more than 150 adults and kids today at Stardust Castle were Love Love Christmas, Hansel and Gretel and Forest Fantasy.
Love Love Christmas has been designed to appeal to the youngest of pageant fans with a big, beautiful teddy bear floating in the sky, holding on to a bunch of brightly coloured balloons. Hansel and Gretel needs no introduction as a fairy tale classic and Forest Fantasy is a magical, far away land where fairies come to play and magic happens.
Peter Evers, Chair, Credit Union Christmas Pageant Company, said the credit unions were once again looking forward to the event as they celebrate their 16th year of sponsorship of the event.
“The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is more than just a one day event for us; it is a 365 day commitment by all of our staff. To see the magic and the expressions on everyone’s face here today is just a sneak peek of what we enjoy on Pageant day,” Mr Evers said.
“The credit unions are very proud of their partnership with the South Australian Government to present this free event that brings the community together and the city, literally to a standstill.”
The entire South Australian community is invited to ‘celebrate the clown within’ by bringing their biggest smiles, waves and red noses for the Guinness World Record attempt as they prepare to welcome Father Christmas and, of course, the clowns, when this spectacular procession arrives in Adelaide on Saturday 12 November 2011, starting at 9.30am.
More than 300,000 people are expected to line the Pageant route as Father Christmas makes his way from South Terrace to the Magic Cave at David Jones.
In 2011 the pageant will be travelling a slightly different route along Flinders Street due to construction works along Grenfell Street. Event organisers encourage pageant-goers to study the route map carefully.
Pageant-goers are also encouraged to arrive early and take part in the Guinness World Record attempt, at the largest gathering of people wearing red noses, starting at 9.10am.
In 2010, the pageant broke the Guinness World Record for the largest group of Carol Singers.
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by four leading credit unions in South Australia – People’s Choice Credit Union, Community CPS Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
