"Another year is flying by and another pageant has been successfully staged. I hope all the kids enjoyed it no matter your age.
Thank you to the 3683 volunteers, services, participants and friends of the Pageant family who came together on the day to make this such a wonderful event.
We had a live audience in attendance numbering 224,000 and a live television audience peaking at 225,000. With a combined live audience of 449,000 we can all be proud and happy that this magnificent event has once again reached out to its audience and more.
With the event happening at the end of a heat wave, it was a wonderful reminder on the day, that the timing of the pageant has been well thought out over the years. The start time allowed sufficient time for the pageant floats to reach the city and be ready for the 9.30 start. The city buildings along most of the beautiful pageant route cast long shadows to keep the temperatures down and to enable the thousands of children to still have a wonderful time drawing on the roads with chalk as has become one of the many traditions on pageant day. It was not until the pageant was over and the sun was directly above that the temperature began to rapidly increase. Perfect timing!
The new street speaker system provided music throughout the city and enabled us to engage more closely with everyone attending. More importantly it helped us encourage those in attendance before the pageant to get the Mexican wave to travel from South Tce through to North Tce along the whole length of the 3.3 km route. Unfortunately a combination of the time and heat meant we did not have sufficient numbers to get the record but that is not what the exercise was all about. What we did achieve was the coming together of our community to do what Guinness World records described as AWESOME. It was also very exciting to hear the announcements over the speaker system reporting on the wave position as it raced through the streets. A loud cheer went up when we all realised we had actually gone from one end of the city to the next. So well done kids young and older. WE DID IT!. Now what should we have a go at next year?
Before I sign off, do you know that two days before the pageant this year I received a special call from Father Christmas. He said to me, Brian, I have heard it is going to be a very hot day in South Australia on Pageant day. Dont worry, Ill be there no matter what! Its my favourite place to be at this time of year and there is no way I will let those children down. See you bright and early and Merry Christmas.
If you want to relive the memories, you can get a DVD of this years pageant and I would also recommend to you the book on the Magic Cave and the Pageant. More details can be found on this website. Do you like the website? I certainly do and thank you to the team who created it for you all to enjoy.
Until next year on the 13th November 2010, from everyone here at Stardust Castle, thank you for coming along or watching the Credit Union Christmas Pageant live on Channel 9. We wish you and your families a safe and happy Christmas and an awe inspiring new year."
