PageantTrivia
Thought you knew everything there is to know about the Credit Union Christmas Pageant, well think again! Did you know:
There are over 164 clowns in the Pageant.
The route is currently 3.35 kms long - when Father Christmas enters King William Street from South Terrace, the first set is entering North Terrace taking up the whole of the North/South carriageways of the city and the eastern carriageways to Pulteney Street.
90 makeup artists will make up more than 1000 characters between 6.30 am and 9.00 am on Pageant day.
Allianz Insurance will provide well over 1500 breakfasts to Pageant characters.
It takes 11 trucks to transport costumes shapes and heads bikes and props to the start point the day before the Pageant.
It takes 200 boxes of tissues and 60 jars of make up remover to remove makeup each year.
The first Pageant had eight floats and four bands. The 2006 Credit Union Christmas Pageant had 57 floats and 15 bands plus 15 walking sets.
1200 litres of petrol are used on Pageant day and 165 batteries are loaned from Exide Batteries to operate the mechanical features and sounds of floats.
From the week after Pageant until Christmas Eve, well over 3000 pieces of costume are washed and ironed and placed in plastic bags for storage ready for the next Pageant.
More than 50 litres of washing liquid, 18 cans of starch, six bottles of bleach, 400 litres of distilled water are used.
Costume fittings are held over an 8-week period. Costumes are transported to credit union offices during this period. On fitting days, wardrobe staff fit one costume every 5 minutes.
All characters in the Pageant are required for rehearsals in October and November of each year with rehearsals for 900 characters held over five weeks in the lead-up to the Pageant.
More than 40 credit union staff will participate in 11 tap-dancing rehearsals volunteering over 24 hours in preparation for the 75th Anniversary celebrations for this year's Credit Union Christmas Pageant.
